Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Several States; IMD Warns of Strong Winds, Maharashtra on Watch
The IMD has issued rain alerts across several states, warning of strong winds reaching 70 kmph. Maharashtra's six districts, including Pune and Nashik, may witness thunderstorms as multiple low-pressure systems remain active.
According to the IMD, light to heavy rainfall is likely in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karnataka, Manipur, Tripura and Assam. Rainfall intensity could increase in some areas, accompanied by winds reaching speeds of up to 70 kilometres per hour. The weather department has urged residents to remain alert.
Weather conditions in Maharashtra continue to remain unsettled even after the impact of Cyclone 'Arnab', which developed over the Bay of Bengal, weakened. Changes in atmospheric conditions have created favourable conditions for rainfall over Central Maharashtra. The IMD has forecast rain accompanied by lightning and thunder in several districts today.
Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Pune, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur are among the six districts for which a rain warning has been issued. Meanwhile, partly cloudy skies are expected across other parts of the state. These changing weather conditions could lead to fluctuations in both maximum and minimum temperatures.
According to the prevailing weather systems, a low-pressure area is active over North Chhattisgarh and adjoining East Madhya Pradesh. Another low-pressure trough has developed from Vidarbha through Marathwada, Central Maharashtra and Konkan, extending up to the Arabian Sea.
Meanwhile, a low-pressure area has also formed over the South Andaman Sea. It is likely to intensify and develop into a depression. The weather system is expected to move towards the Andhra Pradesh coast.
With multiple weather systems influencing conditions across the country, the IMD's warnings for the coming eight hours remain significant, particularly for states and districts expecting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds.
